Yinkin is the feline brother of Orlanth, and the Ram god of cats and alynxes. He rules the thick forest on the way to Orlanthstead and is known to chase away troublesome undead. A group of wandering Yinkini, a roving cult devoted to the cat god, roams the Black Eel Valley.

Ride Like the Wind[]

Yinkin is first mentioned in Ride Like the Wind.

Lore[]

Your clan circle don't know much about the more obscure Ram gods...

  • "Certain Orlanthi worship a tiger god named Yiskin or Yenkin or some such."

Myths & Rituals[]

He appears in Ekarna's Four Trades as an ally of Thengist, and is defeated by Osara.

Lights Going Out[]

Having become Rams since the first game, Yinkin is a bit more relevant to your clan in Lights Going Out.

Worship[]

You cannot build a shrine to Yinkin, and no other clan in the Black Eel Valley has one either. This is because, though he accepts both men and women into his cult, his status as a minor god prevents Yinkin from amassing enough devotees in the valley to maintain one. Naturally, you cannot put a follower of his on the ring either.

However, your clan may occasionally propitiate to or call on Yinkin, especially when dealing with undead from inside your clan, which may require a gentler touch than that of Humakt's. Because of the rarity of the occasion, Yinkin is usually happy to accept smaller sacrifices than other gods. This may happen in the following events:

Yinkin may also die with the Death of Yinkin event. Mentions of Yinkin will reflect this going forward.

Lore[]

About Yinkin, your clan ring has the following to say:

  • "Yinkin is Orlanth's brother and companion."
  • "Yinkin is the god of alynxes of all sorts."
  • "In some stories, the task of scaring away friendly but troublesome undead falls to Yinkin, god of cats."
  • "Why Yinkin has powers against undead I don't pretend to understand. But all hands in a fight, I suppose."
  • "Yinkin, the shadowcat god, has a knack for scaring away the undead."
  • "Yinkin scares away ghosts from time to time but is no overall Chaos fighter."
  • "A minor deity, Yinkin responds to smaller gifts than, say, Urox or Chalana Arroy."
  • "No clan has enough Yinkin worshipers to support a shrine, which is why [the Yinkini] wander."
  • "Yinkin rarely receives sacrifice. He accepts smaller gifts that mightier gods would disdain."
  • "Yinkin rules the thick forest on the way to Orlanthstead."
  • "Orlanth is dead. How much longer will his cat-brother last?"
  • "It may be Yinkin, Orlanth's cat brother, who wakes him up."
  • "Yinkin promised Ernalda he would guard the grain goddesses."
  • "Yinkin always was a helpful god."
  • "Orlanth's brother Yinkin is an alynx, which we also call a shadow cat."
  • "Yinkin is Orlanth's brother, because in the Gods Realm a person and a cat can be blood relation."
