Dialogue[]

A delegation of Wheels from outside the valley arrives, accompanied by mistreated slaves, to spread the glory of a foreign god. "We worship Ompalam, God of Order and Command. The world broke when misguided deities of so-called freedom decided that men could not be property. Order depends on the distinction between the binder and the bound. Without it, Chaos reigns."

They want you to give them ten people, to be consigned to bondage. Also, they want the Berenethtelli king to fly their banner from the top of his citadel. In exchange, Ompalam will bless you with an immediate gift of 150 cows. And each year you continue to fly the banner, more goods will appear unbidden in your storehouses.

  1. Agree.
  2. "Begone, wretches!"
  3. Decline, then call on Urox for protection against Chaos.
  4. Attack them.

Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out

Consequences[]

If you decline and call on Urox, the Wheels leave saying they'd leave the temptation with us like a seed that would grow and they'd reap in the future. Choose how much to sacrifice. With a successful sacrifice, your bull grunters assert it will be harder for them to act against us.

If you attack them, you must first decide who to lead the assault and its size. If you're successful, it may be that the captives, once free, reveal they did it of their own free will, to help their clans, and leave to find the Ompalites again. If so, this lowers Mood.

Notes[]

Throughout a game of Lights Going Out, you may hear of another clan making a very similar deal with the same sort of people:

I hear from reliable sources that the <Other> clan made a deal with slave-takers and received a very substantial herd of cattle. Perhaps we can raid them for these new possessions, which come from such a suspicious source.

Advice[]

  • "They desire this gesture because I am a king." - Iverlantho
  • "Imagine drawing lots to see which of our young and strong must take the shackle!"
  • "As the world falls apart and people grow desperate, sinister religions spread."
  • "Neighbors will despise us if we do this."
  • "We must do what we must, but cast folk into slavery? Never!"
  • "Command and Order? This Chaos god stands for Cruelty and Coercion!"
  • "They wouldn't dare come here without powerful defensive magic. I wouldn't be so quick to attack them."
  • "Since they worship a god of Order, we can at least trust them to hold up their end of the deal."
  • "Goods equal to 150 cows are worth more than the lives of ten commoners."
  • "They lie. Ompalam does not stave off Chaos. He is Chaos."
