Dialogue[]

Members of the <Wheel> clan have maimed one of your young warriors, <Name>. Charioteer nobles caught <Name>, dragged him onto one of their fast-moving carts, and blinded him with a punishing solar bolt. Then they threw him from the cart, so the rest of us could behold the shame they’d inflicted. <Name>, who will never fight again, says he wishes to rise to the sky. This means stepping into a sacred pyre to be burned alive. He would then rise as smoke into the stars, to fight alongside the gods there.
  1. Attack the charioteers.
  2. Convince <Name> to accept life without sight.
  3. Call on the goddess Erissa to restore his eyes.
  4. Call on spirits to let him see without eyes.
  5. Conduct the skyrise ritual, as he requests.

Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind

Consequences[]

At the start of the event, Mood drops and one of your Swords is injured.

A successful raid will persuade <Name> live on as a noncombatant, though an unsuccessful one will only reaffirm his desire to die.

Erissa partially heal his eyes, enough for him to fight close up with a sword. This will cost you some Clan Magic.

Spirits can also aid him, giving him strange sight.

And a successful skywise ritual may gain the favorable attention of the war gods. If so, Mood improves.

Notes[]

The chain event Beren Blinded is a variant on this one.

Advice[]

  • "His injuries are severe. We should heal him, but it will be diffisult and costly. Sacrifice goods worth at least ten cows, or tax the spirits." - Erissa worshiper
  • "This gruesome act is a ritual obeisance for the Wheels. They say it is because we worship Hyalor as a god, when he was only a man." - Relandar worshiper
  • "Both eyes are too badly damaged for normal healing. But spirits might lend him their eerie sight." - Shaman
  • "Our magic will help loft his soul skywards." - If you put much magic into Ritual during the previous Sacred Time
  • "A successful attack will ease <Name>'s mind, and improve the people's mood, too."
  • "A successful attack will make the <Wheel>s fear us, which is useful in more than one."
  • "Hyalor is of divine blood, but the Wheels do not follow him and so deny this."
  • "I would kill myself if I were him."
  • "We should be more careful around them."
  • "It is hard to accept, but we must let him walk into the pyre."
  • "You ask me why I hate Wheels? This is why!" - Wheel-hating circle member
