Dialogue[]
“ | While in the kingdom of the Vestantes, an Orlanthi tribe once famed for their magic and martial prowess, but recently hard pressed by Chaos, <Explorer>'s expedition learns that the tribal king, <King>, mustered forces for an attack on Berenstead. His champions rouse the warriors of border clans. "In reprisal for our great victories against it, Chaos broke our citadel of Gorolfstead. The weak Berenethtelli, who are not even a real tribe anymore, complacently occupy their dwarf-built fortress. If we are to survive, we must take it. Those <Player Clan>s we do not slay or drive out, we shall make our slaves!"

Consequences[]
Whatever you choose to do, be warned that if you don't stop the Vestantes before they set off, they will launch a strong raid against your clan, which will be resolved immediately after this event.
If you continue your search for valuables, your explorers may find valuables worth a variable amount of goods, a random treasure, or even the Wand of Vestenan. Another possibility is finding a recent mass burial with carvings telling of a recent battle against Chaos, which you may choose to dig up for goods, or leave them alone for fear of offending the gods. Unfortunately, while your explorers are busy seeking valuables, the Vestantes army will likely catch Berenstead by surprise, meaning that only around one-half of your clan's warriors will be available for the ensuing battle.
If you petition border clans to block the Vestantes advance, you will be asked whether you agree to owe them a favor each if they agree, which increases the chance of success. If you convince them to help, the border clans will turn the Vestantes back, at the cost of several warriors. If not, the clans will refuse, claiming that they have no desire to stand in the way of an army that's powerful enough to threaten the great fortress of Berenstead, leaving you to face the Vestantes in battle.
If you speed home to warn Berenstead, you may be spotted by Vestantes patrols and take casualties, but <Explorer> may survive to issue warnings of the imminent attack. Mood loss along with casualties. If you are lucky, your exploring party may evade the Vestantes completely and arrive home in time to warn your clan about the attack.
If you successfully set an ambush for their commanders, you are likely to suffer a few casualties, but in exchange kill half his commanders before they know what hit them. The Vestantes king will have to rebuild before thinking of invading Berenstead again. Mood may improve.
