Venef is a member of the Berenethtelli royal clan and is born the heir to its king, Iverlantho. In turn, he is the father of Erenlanth. Venef often tries to be conciliatory and, if he sits on the ring, will often advise a middle-path between extreme solutions. Among his detractors, this makes him seem an overly cautious and vacillatory man. One of these detractors is his own father, Iverlantho, with who Venef has a strained relationship. The two men are very different in outlook and, besides not being nearly as coarse of a man as his father is, Venef is also not as passionate on the subject of tribal restoration as Iverlantho.
Unlike his father, Venef may be sent on diplomatic and trading missions away from Berenstead, but he will refuse to go exploring, foraging or searching for spirits, claiming that it would put the royal lineage at risk. For the same reason, he may order someone else to take his place if he is selected for a potentially dangerous task during events.
