Vampires are a sort of undead creature. Their god is the Chaos deity called Vivamort, but they are also associated to a lesser extent with his fellow god of undeath, Nontraya. Vampires drink the blood of sentient living beings. They are supernaturally strong, stealthy, can turn into mist on command, and are difficult to kill, but one way to do so is to sever its head entirely. As undead beings, they are also weak to the Death Rune, and entities associated with it—like Humakt—are their enemies.

It used to be that the living were tranformed into vampires by choosing to worship Vivamort. However, in the Chaos Age, when the barrier between life and death is thinner, it is possible to turn into one against your will. One way is to be drained of blood by a vampire, and then have your body not attended to—for example, by cremation—soon enough.

Throughout the game, you may receive the following report:

I've heard that the <Other Clan>s had given guest rights to a family of vampires. Supposedly they dealt with the problem, but aren't talking about it.

  • "It was not always so, but these days anyone drained of blood by a vampire transforms into a lesser member of Vivamort's army."
  • "If <Noble> was alive, but suffering vampire sickness, we would have to cut off <his/her> head."
  • "It was the undead Chaos god, Nontraya, that spawned the vampires."
  • "Any capable fighter can take on a skeleton or a zombie. Vampires are a different story."
  • "We will cremate <Noble> right away. With barriers between life and death eroding, corpses of vampire victims now rise as vampires themselves."
  • "In Beren's day, only consenting worshipers of Vivamort became vampires. In this age of Chaos, the unwilling can also succumb."
  • "You cannot murder one who is already dead, so cutting off <Vampirism Infected>'s head will not count as kinstrife."
