Valind, also called Freeze Everything, is a god of ice, snow, and chill-wind. He is the son of Vadrus and brother of Gagarth. Despite being a nephew of Orlanth's, the Orlanthi consider him an outlaw god. According to them, Valind was the one that, in the guise of a glacier, crushed the Golden City of Nivorah. He has since quarreled with the city's surviving gods, like Osara. Since Vadrus died, presumably during the Great Darkness, Valind has become the chief of his divine clan, the Hurt Everythings.

Valind is venerated by Ram bandits, as well as the Valindlings, worshipers of the great glacier. He is also associated with ice demons.

Ride Like the Wind[]

Valind first appears in Ride Like the Wind.

Myths & Rituals[]

He makes a minor appearance in Zarlen's First Wander myth, as Freeze Everything.

Lights Going Out[]

Valind is a much more present force in Lights Going Out.

Besides miscellaneous bandits, a few of your fellow Berenethtelli clans may have, since the death of Orlanth, taken up the worship of Valind. One by consorting with ice demons and another by housing outlaws.

Despite not worshiping him, you may be given the option to call upon Valind for aid during certain events. While he may help you, doing so will inevitably strengthen the outlaws and bandits of your valley, making trade and travel more dangerous, and may also have other negative consequences.

Valind's hailstorms is another danger plaguing the valley. Your explorers may recount variations of the following incident:

<Explorer> was exploring our land when disaster struck. They were all caught in the open during one of Valind's hailstorms, which dropped ice the size of a man's fist. The entire party was wounded, but at least only one horse perished.

You may also hear the following rumor:

Stories from the north say that by sacrificing captives, worshipers of Valind have managed to summon the Glacier into the valley. The wall of ice continues to advance. I would be happy to see if this threat is true.
