Rune Mastery

After Hyalor left his people, the Riders, and before he died, he had many adventures, and left secrets for his descendants to find. Seven of these are things that your explorers can find. It isn't clear if they are bound to specific locations on the Map or not.

Discovering any of Hyalor's secrets will naturally boost your clan mood. You will also become known for finding secrets Hyalor left before he died.

The myth of Hyalor's Long Ride may cast more light on this part of Hyalor's life. (Or not, if you reject the Cenala revelation.)

Although these aren't true treasures, they can nonetheless help your clan in a variety of ways...

The First Secret[]

While we were exploring to the <direction>, we spotted a marker with Hyalor’s rune, in the middle of <a field/a meadow/some bushes>. I decided to dig under it, and found a small glass bottle, the sort that the Perondeto priests made back in Nivorah. It must have been one of the treasures Hyalor hid for us before he died, like the “Long Ride” story tells us. It looked empty, so I took the stopper off. We all heard an amazing, whinnying laugh. It must have been Gamari! Hyalor had hidden one of Gamari’s laughs for us to find.

We weren’t the only ones to hear it. <number> <gold-maned/all-white/graceful/shaggy-coated> horses came galloping up. They followed us home. The bottle is <old/beautiful> and worth a little something, too.

Notes[]

This grants ~10 horses and 1 good.

The Second Secret[]

While we were exploring to the <direction>, and noticed how the grass <on a hillside/in a meadow> was greener in the shape of a horse. We searched where its eye would be, and found a <piece of amber/rock inscribed with the same design>. As soon as I <held it/picked it up> I could tell it was magic. The priests agree with me that it was probably put there by Hyalor. They say it will help us with diplomacy, as if we had devoted clan magic to it. At least for a <couple years/while>.

Notes[]

This will help your clan's Diplomacy magic (equivalent to an extra point at Sacred Time) for about two years.

The Third Secret[]

While we were exploring to the <direction>, I saw Hyalor’s mark high on an ancient tree. One of my <women/men> climbed up, and cut out an arrowhead. The priests agree with me that it was probably shot into the tree by Hyalor. They say it will give us luck in battle. At least for a <couple years/while>.

The Fourth Secret[]

While we were exploring to the <direction>, we spotted a rock with Hyalor’s rune, <in the middle of/at the edge> of <a stream/a small pond/a clearing>. We dug under it, and found <g> gold coins, the kind that haven’t been minted since we lived in Nivorah. They must have been left there by Hyalor.

Notes[]

This grants ~40 goods.

The Fifth Secret[]

While we were exploring to the <direction>, we spotted a rock with Hyalor’s rune, <in the middle of/at the edge> of <a stream/a small pond/a clearing>. We dug under it, and found a small box containing a map. It must have been left there by Hyalor. It was a little hard to figure out, but I think this opens up new lands for us to explore.

Notes[]

This reveals new parts of the Map.

The Sixth Secret[]

While we were exploring to the <direction>, we spotted a rock with Hyalor’s rune, <in the middle of/at the edge> of <a stream/a small pond/a clearing>. We dug under it, and found <a little horse carved from stone/a little clay horse/a gold plaque inscribed with tiny writing/a small box that appeared empty>. <When we showed it to our priests of Hyalor, knowledge of the <Horsebreaker/Horsefriend/Law> blessing filled their heads>/< But then we felt full of energy. It has strengthened our clan magic>. It must have been one of the treasures Hyalor hid for us before he died, like the “Long Ride” story tells us.

Notes[]

This usually grants knowledge of one of Hyalor's blessings. The order of priority seems to be Horsebreaker, then Horsefriend, then Law. If you know all of Hyalor's blessings already, you gain a point of Clan Magic instead.

The Seventh Secret[]

While we were exploring to the <direction>, we spotted a cliff face with Hyalor’s rune, near <a grove/a lone tree/a low mound>. One of the warriors climbed up, and found a tiny carved jewel. It must have been left there by Hyalor. After seeing the jewel, <Hyalor worshipper(s)>, who worship Hyalor, <is/are> now better in all the ways of dealing with horses.>

Notes[]

Your Hyalor worshippers' Food skill (which includes all animal knowledge) will increase.

If none of your leaders is devoted to Hyalor, you will instead gain a point of Clan Magic.
