The Oslira is a great river that starts far up north, under the glacier in the domed Dara Happa empire, where it passes by the city of Alkoth. It is a difficult river to magically tame and it counts the significantly less fierce Forantin and Black Eel rivers among its tributaries. In many ways the Oslira and Black Eel rivers serve as a border between the more solar-worshiping cultures—like the Riders, Wheels, Dara Happans, and Ergeshites—to the north of them and the storm-worshiping peoples—like the Kestaytelli and the Southern Ram Kingdoms—to the south.

Oslira is also a sort of nature goddess, known as Shargash's River Wife, and a subject of worship for the river-dwelling Weeders.

Ride Like the Wind[]

Because of its importance, the Oslira is one of the few features to be sketched in on the unexplored map. Your clan always settles north of both the Oslira and Black Eel rivers.

The Oslira starts untamed in Ride Like the Wind. In order to safely cross the river, it is necessary to perform the Taming the River ritual.

Lights Going Out[]

In Lights Going Out, the Oslira starts tamed and can safely be crossed. However, it can become untamed again through the random event Unruly River. If so, it is necessary to perform Taming the River to safely cross it again, like in the first game. This time, your clan lives to the south of the river.

You may hear the following reports about the Oslira:

The <perch/bug-eyes bass/catfish/paddlefish> spirit that lived in the Oslira River <was/has> <nibbled to death by Chaos worms/lured out of the river by a Chaos goddess and died gasping for water/eaten by twin troll gods/mysteriously disappeared>. This means there are no more <perch/bug-eyes bass/catfish/paddlefish>, and we will find it harder to bring food until other fish take their place.
One of the hunters said that <he/she> saw huge beasts with gaping mouths swimming down the Oslira.

Lore[]

The clan ring can say the following about Oslira:

  • "The goddess Oslira is usually calm, despite the monsters that swim in her."
  • "Oslira is as fickle as a woman. We must put her in her place."
  • "Weeders worship the Oslira River, regarding her as a great spirit."
