YoungHorses

Young horses.

The horse is the animal used by Riders as their mounts. They were taught the secrets of horseback riding—which they guard jealously—by their divine founder, Hyalor. The Pure Horse Clan takes this reverence for equines even further, and keeps no other animals. Wheels also raise horses, but instead use them to pull their chariots. Other peoples, like Rams, don't even know how to do this much.

Their goddess is Gamari, mother of horses. She is a major deity in both the Wheel and Rider pantheons.

Horses are native to the Black Eel Valley and wild horses can sometimes be found there.

Ride Like the Wind[]

Gamari

Gamari, goddess of horses.

Horses are one of the resources in Ride Like the Wind, and a culturally important one; all Rider warriors fight as cavalry. Your clan will be unhappy if you have fewer horses than adult clan members, and the clan can even disband for lack of horses. If you need more horses, you can buy them, or ask for a few as a favor—five being the customary number. If you're in real trouble, you can perform the ritual Gamari Horse Mother and request horses as a reward, or Ekarna Four Trader and trade goods for horses with Ekarna. Certain blessings can also help: Gamari's Colt Blessing will increase the fertility of your mares, and Hyalor's Horsefriend will make your horses live longer.

Lights Going Out[]

Horses function much the same in Lights Going Out as they did in Ride Like the Wind.

However, in Lights Going Out, you play as the royal clan of the Berenethtelli, the one Ram tribe to ride horses. Their horse goddess is Redalda. In addition, your clan will require somewhat fewer horses than in Ride Like the Wind, and some of your Bows will now fight as infantry (each Sword requires a horse though).
