Dialogue[]

Nobles from the <Wheel> clan rumble in their carts to your clan borders to make a strange request. They wish to embark on a ritual journey to the Gods War. One of their priests will take the role of their god <God> in a rite called <Ritual Name>. In their story <summary>. Their magic will be strengthened if a Rider joins the ceremony in the role of an enemy. The participant will not be harmed but will undergo symbolic defeat. If the ritual succeeds, they’ll give you 20 cows.
  1. Agree.
  2. Agree, but insist on payment even if their ritual fails.
  3. Agree if they increase their offer to 30 cows.
  4. Agree to do it for nothing.
  5. Refuse.

— Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind

Consequences[]

If you agree to do it, you will lose a point of magic whether the Wheels' ritual works or not.

You may not be able to talk them into increasing the payment or paying if the ritual fails.

If you do it for nothing, you may rise in this Wheel clan's esteem.

The Wheels generally take it well if you refuse, as long as you're polite about it.

Advice[]

  • "As a youth I saw many of these humiliations. Nothing to worry about. But do not send a woman. That would be unseemly." - Former Wheel
  • "Samnal is the brother of Osara and Verlaro we don't talk about."
  • "We don't owe Wheels any ritual favors."
  • "It's Samnals priests who go the furthest to deny Hyalor's divinity." - Hyalor worshipper
  • "I don't know."
  • "Participation will dim our own magic a bit, even if they fail."
  • "They'll like us better if we do this."
  • "Make our refusal clear with a thick helping of mockery." - Raven trickster

Notes[]

This practice of recruiting an enemy to be symbolically defeated seems to be the Wheel equivalent of the Rider practice of whooping at a Wheel clan before certain rituals.

It may be possible to lose more than one point of magic if you send a weak magician.
