Grandfather Mortal was the first human, and the first to die. According to Rider myth, he died when Death gave his gift to Soldier, who used it against Grandfather Mortal. The Rams have different, contradicting myths of Grandfather Mortal's death; some say he was slain by Eurmal, others by Humakt, and yet others by the sword of Death itself. No matter who killed him, he is supposed to have come back to the living world as Grandfather Deadflesh, after Orlanth shattered Death upon his slaying of the Emperor, Yelm.
