The Forosilvuli are a tribe of Rams who live to the south of the Black Eel valley, in a land called Forosan. They claim descent from Forosil Ferocious and Ornore, granddaughter of Vingkot. Supposedly, Forosil Ferocious was a star captain who came down from heaven to found the Forosilvuli tribe. They keep sakkars that fight with them in battle, and also wear sakkar skins and teeth. They particularly loathe the solar peoples, Hyalorings included.

Ride Like the Wind[]

The Forosilvuli first appears in Ride Like the Wind. It is one of the four "Southern Ram Kingdoms" you can visit.

Lore[]

Your clan circle has the following to say about them:

  • "They specialize in magic that counters Elmal's."
  • "Certain Orlanthi worship a tiger god named Yiskin or Yenkin or some such."
  • "They hate sky worshipers, and so make poor trading partners."
  • "These Rams don't know their way around a horse either."
  • "All Rams share responsibility for murdering the Sun Emperor, but these ones revel in it more than most."

Events[]

They appear in the following events:

Lights Going Out[]

The Forosilvuli returns in Lights Going Out. It is one of the possible targets of Brolarulf's Great Raid in the game's Prolog. If picked, it sets up a special enmity between them and the player clan for the rest of the game. No matter whether Brolarulf raided them or not, the Forosilvuli, like everyone else, have fallen on hard times in the Chaos Age. Forosan is said to have become a largely wasted landscape, with depopulated clan territories and shattered villages. When sending explorers there, they may tell you that one can go days without meeting anyone else. Should you send an exploration party into Forosan, there is a chance of finding the Tooth of Forosan, one of the Four Kingdoms treasures.

That said, the tribe's king maintains the minimal level of cohesion, such that he can project power into the valley. He will occasionally send official delegations to your clan, and, after discovery, it is possible to both raid, and be raided by, the Forosilvuli. That said, the level of diplomatic relations between the Forosilvuli and Berenstead remains unsophisticated, and your clan cannot distinguish one Forosilvuli clan from another. When visiting other clans, they may tell you of a recent visit by Forosilvuli explorers traveling the valley looking for small suns to slay.

Should you be raided by the Forosilvuli before discovering their lands, you may receive the following report:

I've been thinking about the attack by the Forosilvuli. <No doubt it's because King Brolarulf led our tribe against them. And the sun <shrine/temple> at Berenstead remains as a tempting target.> If we want to retaliate, we will have to explore to the southeast, to find a path to their heartland.

Lore[]

The clan ring says this about the Forosilvuli:

  • "They are from Forosan. If that is the kingdom famed for its magicians."
  • "Winter Wife's grandchildren, offspring of Forosil Ferocious, the Star Husband."
  • "Forosil Ferocious came down from the heavens to found the Forosilvuli tribe. Not all Star Husbands are as untrustworthy."
  • "Clans from the Forosilvuli borderlands sometimes raid us."
  • "They live close enough to raid us. A goodwill gesture would not be wasted."
  • "We have an advantage over the Forosilvuli or Vestantes, in that we ride and they don't. But Orlanth could favor either one of us."
  • "When his advisors counseled war against the tiger kingdom, King Brolarulf said, 'Beware those teeth.'"
  • "Their sabertooth tigers are also called sakkars."
  • "Though the Forosilvuli occasionally send emissaries for good or ill, our relations with them lack complexity."
  • "A kingdom that still survives must be strong."
  • "Their kingdom holds on, but will still disintegrate, as did ours."
  • "Much of their tribal land no longer exists."
  • "The Forosilvuli have long fought against those who worship the sun gods, which is why Brolarulf raided them. - depending on choices made during the Prolog
  • "I remember the former might of the Forosilvuli." - Returner
