Anaxial the Sailor thwarts the forces of water. Note the annoyed face in the waves...

Water is one of the five elements of Glorantha, and the Forces of Water one of the possible sources of danger for the people of the Black Eel Valley.

Ride Like the Wind[]

In Ride Like The Wind, the Forces of Water is a possible choice for your ancestral enemy in clan creation

The Forces of Water are primarily represented by the Weeders, who live along the local rivers. Although weak in most respects, they can still make trouble for you if you treat them poorly. For example, they can call upon river monsters to harass your clan. Other representations of Water include the rivers and their gods, water nymphs, and even the dragon Aroka

The Frog Spirit "helps deal with those tied to the Water rune."

Events[]

Besides all events involving Weeders, Forces of Water events include:

Myths & Rituals[]

The ritual Taming the River can be used to gain protection against the Forces of Water, and if they are your enemy, you can obtain a permanent war blessing against them in the Nyalda Marriage Maker ritual.

Lights Going Out[]

During clan creation in Lights Going Out, it is possible to choose to ward Berenstead against "floods and earthquakes."

To the surprise of many, the Weeders survived the Great Darkness.

Lore[]

Your clan ring might say this about the Forces of Water:

  • "Our Solar ancestors fought the Forces of Water, but we don't have time to emulate them by building a boat."
  • "After Orlanth pushed back the King of Waterstead, he claimed the lands of Yelm."

Myths & Rituals[]

The Taming the River ritual is the only ritual from Ride Like the Wind to make a return in Lights Going Out, and it fulfills much the same role as it did in the previous game. This time, however, you always start knowing this ritual.

The Forces of Water is also a frequent danger to your explorers inside the Gods War. For example, see the events Other Side: Water Warriors and Other Side: Heler Dragon Hostage.
