Erissa is the Hyaloring goddess of healing. Wheels do not worship her, although their healing god, Erildar, is her son. Until Death made himself known in the world—with the death of Grandfather Mortal—Erissa was simply a minor goddess serving the Celestial Court. It was first after that she became the goddess of healing: the object of Death's affection, who she will always reject. When Orlanth the Rebel murdered Sun Emperor Yelm, Erissa joined the household of Elmal—the new sun god—in the city of Nivorah. It was her that granted Hyalor the healing blessing he needed to heal the wounded Hippogriff and help her become Gamari. With Nivorah's destruction, she followed its people in their exodus. She is known for having sung the Bone Mending Ballad.

Riders sometimes honor Erissa with a Unity Festival, and her priestesses sometimes travel from clan to clan, offering healing, though with the expectation of eventual compensation. She is associated with the colors green and white, as both she and her followers wear green honor belts over a white shroud.

Ride Like the Wind[]

Erissa first appears in Ride Like the Wind.

Worship[]

You can build a shrine or a temple to Erissa. Aronpala's Bulb is a treasure that allows you to maintain your shrine or temple to Erissa with fewer worshipers.

Her blessings are:

  • Curing: Restores our sick people to health.
  • Healing: Restores our wounded people to health.
  • Hope: Helps us resist fear.

If you chose for your clan to have supported Erissa with the Bone Mending Ballad during Ride Like the Wind's clan creation, then you will start the game already knowing Erissa's Healing blessing. Your leaders will also be extra skilled with Magic, and dealing with Erissa's followers will be easier.

Besides the above-mentioned Aronpala's Bulb, another treasure of Erissa's is the Robe of Erissa, which grants divine blessing to her worshipers.

As the goddess of healing, Erissa prefers sacrifices of goods over animal sacrifices.

On the Circle[]

Rune Harmony

A worshiper of Erissa on the clan circle allows you to put more magic into Health during Sacred Time. She is the only god with this benefit.

Members of Erissa's cult are always female. In the noble selection screens and on the clan circle, her worshipers are marked with the Harmony rune.

Lore[]

Some things your clan circle may say about Erissa are:

  • "Erissa is the gentle goddess of healing."
  • "Erissa does not curse others with ill health. But she will withhold her blessings from those who send such curses."
  • "The exodus introduced us to new ways to be hurt and injured. We needed Erissa all the more."
  • "When Erissa restored Raven's wing feathers, he cawed her a song. This offended her, until she saw she could use it to ward off evil spirits."
  • "Erissa sympathizes with slaves who suffer, but says nothing to forbid slavery itself."
  • "Erissa embodies mercy."

Myths & Rituals[]

Erissa's myth is Erissa Denies Her Suitor. She has no playable ritual

Lights Going Out[]

In Lights Going Out, your clan, having become Rams since Ride Like the Wind, have ceased active worship of Erissa in favor of the Orlanthi healing godess, Chalana Arroy. However, they have come to believe that Erissa is one of Chalana Arroy's daughters and recognize her that way.

Lore[]

Your clan ring says:

  • "When Redalda founded the tribe she introduced the Rider healing goddess, Erissa, to her mother, Chalana Arrroy."
  • "We should never have abandoned the worship of the Rider healing goddess, Erissa."

Myths & Rituals[]

In Lights Going Out, she is briefly mentioned in How Horses Came to Orlanthstead as having healed Hippogriff of her broken bones.
