Dostal is the Hyaloring god of hunting and the husband of Inilla, goddess of foraging. The Wheels also worship Dostal, but hold him in low regard. The Elmali did not worship Dostal while they lived in Nivorah, but took on his worship only after they left the city. He is variously described as a minor member of Elmal's retinue, or a new god that the Riders met on their journeys. When the gods lived among mortals, he was a mentor to young men that would form the ancestral lines of the Riders, including Zenangar, Nameforgot, Stelfor, and Basikan.

He and the hunting god of the Rams, Odayla, share a rivalry.

Worship[]

You can build either a shrine or a temple to Dostal. His blessings are:

  • Sureshot: Improves hunting yield and helps skirmishers.
  • Tracking: Helps hunters and trackers locate what they search for.

In Ride Like the Wind, the treasure Emblem of Dostal improves mood when hunting goes well and Pouch of Dostal grants divine blessing to Dostal's worshipers. In Lights Going Out, the treasure Dostal's Snare grants good fortune after dealing with animals.

On the Circle[]

Rune Beast

A worshiper of Dostal on the clan circle allows you to put an extra point of magic into Wilds during Sacred Time

In game, all leaders belonging to Dostal's cult are male. They tend to be excellent hunters, meaning they excel in the Combat and Food skills. In the noble selection screens, his worshipers are marked with the Beast rune.

Lore[]

Ride Like the Wind[]

In Ride Like the Wind, the clan circle can say this about Dostal:

  • "On our journey into the wildlands, no god taught us more than Dostal."
  • "Dostal's magic helps us live off the wildlands."
  • "Dostal gives us all the hunting magic we need."
  • "Dostal was a minor figure in Elmal's retinue until the exodus, when our need for him grew."
  • "Dostal joined the Sky Court during the exodus. Let Rams join us too."
  • "Dostal can curse the Rams so they can't find good forage."
  • "When Dostal met the Snakeskinned Auroch, it said, 'Don't mind me. I'm just eating all the grass.'"
  • "We could have enslaved Dostal’s people. We did not, and thus learned the ways of hunting."
  • "Wheels scorn Dostal."
  • "They [the Wheels] worship Dostal, but strictly as a god for the lowly."
  • "Dostal's beard!"

Lights Going Out[]

In Lights Going Out, your clan continue to worship Dostal, even as they have become Rams, and your clan ring has the following to say about him:

  • "The differences between sun and storm have never bothered Dostal."
  • "Rams and Riders alike found Dostal when they came here. Other hunting gods watch over other lands."
  • "My god, Dostal, was first adopted by Riders, and only later met Orlanth."
  • "Hyalor found Dostal in the woods outside the Frozen City. Redalda introduced him to Orlanth."
  • "Dostal joined Hyalor and the Rider gods, and so appears on this tapestry."
  • "The Riders met Dostal on the road south from the Frozen City. The Orlanthi already knew him."
  • "Dostal hunted for the Sun Chieftain, then for the Storm King."
  • "By preying on people, not wild game, bandits are like hunters who reject Dostal."
  • "Wheels call Dostal Elmal's servant."
  • "Wheels don't give Dostal proper honor. But they respect him more than the goddesses."
  • "Dostal joined us when we were Riders, and will stick with us if we go back."
  • "We and the Riders share the same hunting god."
  • "Dimming Dostal's favor will make game harder to find."
  • "Odayla is the son of Orlanth and the Lady of the Wild. Orlanthi hunters elsewhere say we're the strange ones for worshiping Dostal instead."
  • "A fierce rivalry persists between the hunters of Dostal and those of Odayla Big Bear."
  • "When Odayla transforms into a bear he becomes prey for Dostal."
  • "Dostal hates Odayla. I hate Odaylings."
  • "Dostal neither liked or disliked Voriof."

Myths & Rituals[]

Ride Like the Wind[]

Dostal's myth is Dostal and the Snow Elk, the basis for his ritual, Dostal Elk Hunter.

Lights Going Out[]

Dostal does not have his own myth or ritual in Lights Going Out, but he is one of the gods that can be visited by entering a tear into the Gods War on the map. See Other Side: Dostal's Game for the event kick-starting his event-chain in the Otherworld.

You may also hear of another Ram clan in the valley try to reenact a ritual called "Dostal's Great Hunt." They will invariably fail though and there is no way for your clan to attempt it. Not that there is anything to indicate they could do better. In fact, if you struggle with feeding your clan, you may receive a message about the food situation where the possibility of visiting Dostal is dismissed as too dangerous, even if the noble is Hanth or another worshiper of Dostal:

Before Iverlantho became king, we would have visited Dostal on the Other Side, but that path is too dangerous now.

Other Stories[]

The Glorantha wiki doesn't mention Dostal, but it does mention Dastal, a hunting deity worshiped by descendants of the Hyalorings.
