Dialogue[]

The body of Prince Venef burns upon the ceremonial pyre. People mourn for Berenstead, and for a reign that never was. “He would have been a good king: judicious, even-tempered and kind,” people say. Iverlantho weeps for his son, cursing the cruelty of the times. Now there is only one heir—bold, trouble-seeking Erenlanth. This is a matter of concern, as the magic of the royal line is woven into this place. If the royal bloodline dies out, Berenstead will crumble.
  1. Call on Beren to grant the king longevity.
  2. Celebrate Venef’s life with an especially lavish funeral feast.
  3. Seek a bride for the unmarried prince.
Only possible if Erenlanth is of age.
  4. Let the people mourn.

Consequences[]

Successfully calling on Beren will make Iverlantho many years younger. (e.g. 13 in one game)

Notes[]

Advice[]

  • "Erenlanth must take a bride and produce an heir." - Iverlantho
  • "When Erenlanth is old enough to sire an heir, we will find a prestigious bride to bear it for him." - Iverlantho, if Erenlanth is not yet of age.
  • "I’ve just lost my father. I’m not ready to lose Rodene too." - Erenlanth, during his romance with Rodene.
  • "Let me mourn my father before I think of marrying." - Erenlanth, otherwise.
  • "If the rest of you decide it’s time for Erenlanth to wed, please don’t send me to seek a bride." - Rodene, during her romance with Erenlanth.
  • "Can we detach ourselves from the cruelties of existence?" - Sereden or Serestev
  • "It’s still strange to think of calling on Beren as if he were a god! Though I suppose some of our Rider neighbors did call on his ancestor Verlaro, and Beren’s much more impressive than him." - Returner
  • "The prophecy that Erenlanth will not wed until the Chaos clouds are gone from the sky is well known. Our neighbors will regard betrothal to him as a death sentence."
  • "Nothing about Beren was ordinary—including his long lifespan."
  • "Beren is a hero, not a god. But in this moment of royal grief we may be able to call on his magic."
  • "Will his ashes even reach Orlanth’s citadel?"
  • "Without a male of Beren’s line to perform the ceremonies, Berenstead itself will crumble."
  • "At least Venef made sure to ride a different path than his father."
  • "A royal marriage would strengthen ties to the new princess’s clan."
  • "I will miss you, Venef!"
  • "Beren is our most illustrious ancestor." - Ancestor worshipper
  • "You call it longevity. I call it cheating Lord Death." - Humakt worshipper
