A clan is a group of a few hundred people.
Hyaloring clans are led by their clan circles. Elders also serve as judges for any disputes within the clan.
Ram clans work similarly, but their council is instead called a ring and some rams are organised into tribal kingdoms, where the king rather than a group of elders solve disputes.
Composition[]
Your clan is divided into:
- Commoners
- Children
- Swords, who are professional warriors
- Nobles, some of whom form your pool of leaders
Some other clans keep slaves as well, but your clan does not, since your ancestors strongly disapprove of the practice.
Also important are elders. Although not given their own section in the clan breakdown, Hyaloring elders are greatly respected and serve as judges for most disputes.
Families[]
In Ride Like the Wind, your clan includes seven families, each of which includes nobles, commoners, and elders. If the circle doesn't include a member of each family, strife is likely to result.
The possible family names are Akot, Dasano, Erkent, Karent, Nordon, Parnt, Turent, and Zarent.
In Lights Going Out, though your clan is still composed of families, these have become so numerous since it's merger with Redalda's Ram clan that they are not as individually prominent as they used to be and are no longer an important factor when balancing the clan ring.
Other Clans in the Valley[]
Of course, your clan isn't the only one in the Black Eel Valley. You share it with ten other clans of Riders, as well as five composed of Wheels and seven of Rams on the other side of the river. For more details, see Other Clans.
