Brolarulf the Sun was the fifth king of the Berenethtelli. He is the son of Vinglanth, who lost the tribal regalia in battle, and father of Iverlantho. His stallion is named Light-Step and he swung a blazing sword into battle.
He is a devoted follower of Elmal and, throughout his life, he pursued a revival of solar worship within the Berenethtelli. He even approached Wheels to aid him in this endeavor. This put him at odds with the Ram only clans of the tribe, who never worshiped Elmal. Brolarulf earned the epithet of "the Sun" by incarnating Elmal. Relatedly or not, however, every attempt at the rite "Elmal the Vigilant" has since failed.
Whether due to his policy of solar revival, his lack of royal regalia, or some other reason, Brolarulf faced increasing resistance to his rule. In a quest for unity, he led a Great Raid against one of the tribe's neighbors. This was in the eighth year of his reign, when he was 50 years old. Though he was victorious, he never achieved true tribal unity. Over time, the Berenethtelli clans would slowly cease to heed royal authority and began to conduct their own affairs as they saw fit.
During the later years of his reign, many storm gods stopped to answer prayers given to them. First, in Brolarulf's ninth year, it was Ernalda, who was slain by the Chaos god Nontraya. Later, in his thirteenth year, Orlanth was also silenced. By Brolarulf's twentieth year, both Issaries and Lankor Mhy had joined them. Brolarulf was forced to make the difficult decision whether to maintain the temples dedicated to these dead gods or not.
He kept the same council throughout his reign. The members of his clan ring were: Garaskar, Selabos, Astragor, Relindia, Erdaylda, and Kera. In the end, both Brolarulf and his council would die suddenly, either to the Blue Plague or the Blood Blizzard.
He was succeeded as king by his son, Iverlantho.

- "I don't see anything like Brolarulf's great raid happening in my lifetime. But if we're doing well, we'll be attacked, and need a strong defense."
- "My father earned the nickname 'the Sun' by incarnating Elmal, but every attempt at 'Elmal the Vigiliant' since his has failed."
- "When his advisors counseled war against the tiger kingdom, King Brolarulf said, 'Beware those teeth.'"
