The Bird Riders, also called the Vrimaki after their god Vrimak, are a legendary people who rode giant birds into battle. Their city was Verapur, in Jarasan.

The Dara Happan Empire conquered the Vrimaki, making Verapur part of the empire. Later, the bird riders usurped the very Imperial throne, before being cast out themselves.

Ride Like the Wind[]

Bird Riders first appear in Ride Like The Wind, starting with the game's clan creation, where one of the possible Famous Events of your ancestors' is the "Seventeen Banner Camp, when wise Relandar advised Khorlavus how to ally the bird riders."

By the time the game proper takes place, however, the Bird Riders are almost gone. A neighboring clan in the Black Eel Valley reports a visit from the very last one:

The <Other> clan claim they were visited by the last surviving Bird Rider, who came to them from the far north. The Bird RIders once ruled the Empire as usurpers, but were cast out long ago.

Lore[]

The clan circle has the following to say about Bird Riders:

  • "The nobles of Verapur, an imperial city, rode birds like these. But their mounts were tame, with feathers of gold."

Myths & Rituals[]

Despite their near-extinction, you can encounter them in Gods War: Imperials and Bird Riders.

Lights Going Out[]

The Bird Riders have only a brief appearance in Lights Going Out.

They appear in one event: Alkothi Appear. If--during the event--you choose to hunker down, avoiding the Alkothi warriors that fell out of the Gods War, they may instead come to blows with some Bird Riders that also fell out of there. The Bird Riders lose this exchange.
