Dialogue[]
“ | <Annexing Clan> emissaries approach you with an urgent request. The <Ambitious Clan>s intend to push them out of the abandoned lands they annexed, and have been testing them with escalating raids. "We have tried to make peace with them, to no avail. Since you are stronger than them, perhaps you can talk sense into them for us." In exchange for an <Ambitious Clan> pledge to abandon its territorial ambitions, they will gift you with 20 cows this year and 20 cows the next.

Consequences[]
If you agree, but they must also gift the ambitious clan, the annexing clan may agree. If so, you only have to choose which noble to send to negotiate. Even with the gift and an able diplomat, it is still possible to fail, though. The annexing clan is disappointed, but not surprised, and may not hold this failure against you. If you succeed, though, the ambitious clan will agree to not take the land, and both clans will hail you as peacemakers.
Notes[]
The event's illustration depends on the culture of the clan making the request.
